Atlanta this week: TreeTorch 2013:

The 12 days of Christmas have passed and its time to get rid of that tree. Head over to Noni’s Wednesday night for the annual TreeTorch. Next year get a tree from the King of Pops and they will pick it up and replant it.

Atlanta is making up for the lack of events last week. Today, there are lots of parties to watch the BCS National Championship, so don’t watch by yourself or with the wrong team.

MODA’s field trip to an artist studio is one of my favorite reoccurring Atlanta events. On Thursday, MODA will be serving cocktails while you visit DEX, a concrete design shop.

The biggest Facebook event in Atlanta this week is the Hot Chocolate 15/5k (1966 people). After you have had your fill of chocolate, don’t be alarmed if someone calmly takes off their pants next to you on the subway ride home from Turner Field.

Searching through Facebook events can be difficult, but an enterprising team from Atlanta has taken the guesswork out of the hunt. Through Huge City, people can see a map view of where public Facebook events are and figure out the local hot spots.

New HUGE city mobile website

HUGE city the website that allows you to see all of the Facebook events happening around you all over the world has created a mobile website so it is easier to use HUGE city on your phone.

When you land on HUGE city on your phone, you are given a choice on how far you are willing to travel. ‘Walk’ shows you whats happening a few blocks from you. ‘Bike’ shows you what’s happening in your neighborhood. And ‘Drive’ shows you everything in the city. We are basing the city size on Atlanta’s 285 perimeter loop or as we like to say ITP (Inside the Perimeter).

You are then taken to a list where you can see less or more events by hitting walk, bike, drive. When you hit an event you are given three more choices: main, about, and map. Main gives you the basic information for the event. About shows you everything that was written in the details section on the Facebook event. And map shows you a map of all the events walking distance from that event.

When you see the map you can touch the red event markers to see the title of the event and touch the title to see more about the event. Some of the events are very close together so when you touch them they “spider” out like a web so it is easier to interact with them.

Finally, we have added an easy search page. Search for a specific event by it’s name or a new city by typing it into our search bar. Change your dates to today, tomorrow, this weekend, or this week. Change your ordering to score, most attended, or date. Our events default to how many stars they have received on the main website. This feature will be available on mobile soon.

THIS week in Atlanta, all the biggest Facebook events on the planet are about the world ending:

I love this image of Atlanta after people have left. All of the biggest Facebook events on the planet this week are about partying or preying before the end of the world.

The second largest Facebook event in the US is urging people to stop the Westboro Baptist Church from showing up at Newtown’s Sandy Hook Elementary. This is all just rumor for now but it looks like this notorious church might be showing up.

Finally, the biggest Facebook event in the UK is from Anonymous encouraging people to come out for Julian Assange’s Christmas Speech.

Tonight dress your bike in as many lights as you can find and join The Mobile Social as they ride around our city on the second annual Tour de Lights.

Tomorrow put on your Santa suit and join hundreds of Santas taking over Little 5 at SantaCon 2012.

SERVE your city: Help distribute food, blankets, hygiene products, and clothing to those in need. Help Trees Atlanta plant trees at the Atlanta Beltline Arboretum.

The Arts in Atlanta: Mediocre or World Class? I love this question! Over the past year, I have noticed the depth and richness of Atlanta’s art scene. I know that our art is world class and I am determined to let everyone know about it. On Thursday, join the Atlanta Press Club for a program on the Arts. An expert panel will report on arts funding, discuss how art shapes communities and compare Atlanta’s art scene to other major metropolitan areas.

If you like Christmas and speedos but hate cancer, check out the 2012 Atlanta Santa Speedo Run. Come to run or come to gawk, just make sure to get those donations! Registration starts at noon.

Do you have a badass beard and/or mustache? If so, prove it at the Battle of the Beards tonight at Masquerade. Like beards but are not so blessed with facial hair? Fear not! There is a ‘Most Unfortunate’ prize as well. We’ll see if Adam can qualify for that one.

This weekend the Stacks Lofts are inviting people to their 6th Annual Artists Tour. Check out all the great artwork and food, meet your fantastic neighbors in Cabbagetown, and maybe even cross off gifts from that holiday shopping list.

We had a great time at the Atlanta Beltline Eastside 10k. If you missed it, stay tuned, there are lots of chances to run.

This Wednesday come out to support Cousin Dan at Star Bar. Cousin Dan recently was shot in Cabbagetown last Thursday and amazingly he says the show is still on! On or off, Cousin Dan rocks, so get out and support one of the best shows in Atlanta! Check out his music video.

THIS weekend in Atlanta: Zombie Santa, Mustaches, and Football:

The biggest Facebook event in Atlanta this weekend is tonight’s SEC Championship Pub Crawl in Buckhead. Check out HUGE city to see which tailgating parties your friends are going to for Bama vs Georgia tomorrow. A couple hundred Cosplayers are going to confuse the drunk football fans as they stumble past the Centennial Park ice rink on their way to the Dome.

We will be at the Atlanta Beltline Eastside 10k tomorrow morning. Come out and have some hot chocolate.

If you want to find something unique for someone for Christmas head to these pop up markets on Saturday.
